8 Homemade Wood Cleaners

Wood is a product as beautiful as it is delicate.

For this reason, in many cases, home cleaners become the best option, much more than opting for chemical products that will provide the same or worse result and that may damage the wood itself.

With these homemade cleaners for wood it will not happen to you, take note of them.

Of course, you must bear in mind that the first thing to do is see what type of furniture is the one that you want to improve and what we want to do with it.

Depending on this, there are several homemade cleaning formulas that will allow you to see the different results.

1. Walnuts to clean the wood

As you hear, walnuts can be a perfect product for cleaning wood.

Thanks to the aqueous liquid that they give off, and which is similar to oil, you will be able to give a new look to your furniture and any wooden object.

To do this, you will only have to peel the walnuts and rub them on the base part.

This way you will get it to act as you expect and, of course, it will not scratch.

2. Wine vinegar and olive oil

With two ingredients as simple as wine vinegar and olive oil, you can make your wooden furniture look impeccable.

  1. For this you will have to pour both liquids in equal parts in a container.
  2. With a cotton cloth, clean the mixture all over the furniture and let it dry for about an hour.
  3. As a final culmination and to make it even better, you can use wax, something that will allow you to polish the wood.

This trick is very effective, because the oil is a product that hydrates the wood and the vinegar will help to remove the accumulated dirt.

Once our furniture is dry we can pass it another cotton cloth to polish it. The result will be unbeatable.

3. Mayonnaise

If what you want is to remove possible stains that the furniture may have due to the spillage of some liquid, it will be enough to spread a little mayonnaise on them.

Wait until the mayonnaise is completely dry, and rub with a cloth until you see it disappear.

4. Cork

In the event that what you want is to eliminate possible marks of glasses you will have to rub over the stain with cork and then clean the area well.

If the stain is old enough, what you will have to do is use a mixture of ash and gasoline and, with a cloth, spread over the stain with circular movements.

5. Vaseline

If you see that your wooden furniture is scratched then Vaseline may be all you need.

It is recommended both for the annoying scratches and for the cracks that wood sometimes presents.

In order for it to act effectively, it will be necessary to:

  1. Apply a layer of Vaseline on them and leave to act (the longer the better).
  2. Then you will only have to clean the furniture to remove the remains of petroleum jelly and that’s it.

In the event that you want to restore bumps and small dents, you will have to put a damp cloth on the area and apply heat with the iron.

You will see how it decreases almost magically.

6. Warm water

If what you are looking for is to remove traces of paint that may have fallen on the wood, then warm water will be enough.

For this you will have to mix your usual cleaning product with warm water and spread it with a towel.

Then you will have to rinse with more lukewarm water (this time, alone) and clean with a dry cloth.

7. Ammonia

To  treat outdoor wooden furniture and try to combat agents such as mold, you will have to mix a little ammonia with half a liter of warm water.

Rub it all over the furniture with a cloth. This will be more than enough.

8. Lemon juice

Another way to polish wooden furniture and make it shiny is:

  1. Mix a little oil or lemon juice with half a liter of vegetable oil.
  2. Spread with a scouring pad.
  3. Rub and let it act.

You will see how you notice it very soon, and your wood shines again.

You have to make sure to put enough lemon so it doesn’t dry out, since we don’t want to scratch the wood when we rub with the scouring pad.

With this trick the dirt will disappear in a moment and you will notice it right away.

In addition to cleaning the wood, you will get an incomparable shine.
