Mouth wounds become an annoying problem that, however, can be treated thanks to natural ingredients such as coconut milk, onion or peppermint oil

The mouth sores can become an annoying problem for many. Normally, they usually appear when we have low defenses, since different bacteria take advantage of this circumstance to lodge anywhere in the mouth and cause us many problems.

In general, these discomforts usually disappear in a short time, taking between ten and twenty days.  Therefore, on few occasions it is necessary to visit the doctor, since when the body’s defenses are raised, the wounds present immediately begin to heal.

However, there are times when these sores become stubborn and take longer than necessary to disappear. At that time will be when we should seek professional help, as it may be a much more serious problem.

Now, when it comes to canker sores caused simply by some infection or new prosthesis —for example—, we can resort to some home treatments that will help us to make them disappear in a short time. Take note of some of the ones that we propose below.

What natural remedies are useful against wounds in the mouth?

The onion

Onion can be a great ally against wounds in the mouth.

Onion is a very useful natural product in treating mouth sores, as it has large amounts of sulfur.

To help us treat this oral health problem, a lot of raw onion should be consumed. Eating it mixed in salads is a good option.

Basil

Basil is an herb with a pleasant aroma that, in addition to being very useful in treating wounds in the mouth, also helps fight bad breath. 

It is advisable to make an infusion by boiling half a liter of water with a bunch of basil branches. Later, we let it rest and rinse our mouths by gargling. We must perform this procedure two or three times a day, preferably after having cleaned our mouth as usual.

Peppermint oil

Peppermint oil helps us treat wounds in the mouth.

Peppermint oil has anesthetic and anti-inflammatory properties which is helpful in calming the pain caused by wounds in the mouth.

To obtain the desired effect, we only have to take a cotton swab dipped in this oil and rub it gently on the affected part.

The Orange juice

Vitamin C strengthens our immune system. Therefore, it is very important to include the juice of this rich fruit in our diet.

Coconut oil

Coconut milk is useful against wounds in the mouth.

It is believed that another of the most effective natural remedies to relieve mouth wounds is coconut oil, although it is not scientifically proven.  To be useful, we only have to swish with this milk at least three or four times a day.

Sage with rosemary

To prepare a mouthwash based on sage and rosemary, we simply have to take half a liter of water and boil it with two tablespoons of each of these herbs.

We will let it boil for about five minutes, we will lower the heat and let it rest. When the water is warm, we will rinse our mouth three to four times a day.

This natural rinse can be very effective against the burning and pain that these mouth wounds cause.

Other very simple, but effective natural remedies

If none of the natural treatments that we have described has convinced you, we propose some more, also very practical. Take note!

  • Rinse three to four times a day with a mixture of cold, boiled water with a tablespoon of sea salt.
  • The oil tea tree has great healing properties antiseptic, analgesic and so can be very effective in the treatment to eliminate mouth sores. However, first make sure you are not allergic.
  • Another recommended natural mouthwash is the one obtained by infusing the horsetail plant.
  • Swallowing a little warm milk can ease the pain and burning.
  • Place a tablespoon of aloe vera gel directly on the sore or canker sore .

Some more recommendations for mouth wounds

The effectiveness of the above natural treatments can be increased by following a series of basic tips. For example, it is quite harmful for our mouth wounds to consume hot, very salty, spicy and far from acidic foods. Likewise, we must be careful when brushing our teeth.

On the other hand, consuming good amounts of yogurt and other foods rich in vitamin B, iron and folic acid can be of great help against our mouth sores.

Put these tips into practice and you will see how your problems with wounds in the mouth will lessen! However, you should consult a doctor whenever they become serious or persist too long.
