How To Clean Sticky Residue From The Floor

Without wanting to, our floors or floors can end up very sticky. Avoid sticky floors with the following tricks

To get a spotless cleaning of the floor you will need the following materials:

  • Mop
  • Hot or boiling water
  • Floor cleaner
  • White vinegar
  • Ammonia
  • A mop bucket
  • Soft rags

What should you do?

If you find yourself with a very sticky floor, follow our steps to remove all that dirt embedded in the floor.

  • Fill the bucket with hot water, hot water removes dirt much better than cold, and more if they are sticky surfaces.
  • Next, add a quantity of floor soap to the water, it will depend on whether your floor is made of wood, parquet, marble or tiles.
  • Dampen the mop and clean thoroughly by rubbing vigorously.
  • If you notice that all the dirt has not been removed, empty the bucket and fill it again with hot water and half a glass of household ammonia (100 ml).
  • Clean the affected area again and rub vigorously.
  • Next, remove that water and fill the bucket again and then add white vinegar. Vinegar is good for disinfecting and killing all kinds of bacteria.

  • Be careful if your floor is made of wood because if it remains wet for a long time because it could be damaged  and some slats rise.
  • If the surface to be cleaned is not large and it is only a small part, try removing the dirt with an industrial magic eraser. There are products that can help you without problems.
  • Look for quality mops or mops so that they can better collect all the dirty and sticky area, there are different materials suitable for all types of floors.
  • If the stain is from a soda and therefore sugar, a household cleaner will be enough to remove it.
  • Over time, our floor may be damaged because the protective layer has disappeared. To improve its appearance, re-varnish or apply the appropriate floor protector.
  • Natural products such as vinegar, lemon juice or household ammonia are suitable for the family, they are not corrosive if we know how to use them properly, so you can use it at home regardless of whether you have small children or pets.

Another method to remove sticky residue from the floor

If the surface is not very large but a sticky piece has been concentrated in a much smaller area, we can use different techniques to recover the naturalness of our floor.

We tell you what you should do:

  • Spray the sticky patch with a lubricating spray. A greasy material could also work for you, although we recommend a spray with water, that is, the one used to prevent the doors from squeaking. Let the lubricating spray work for a few minutes to soften that surface.
  • Rub the site with the help of a clean cloth, to remove some of that greasy spray and some of the dirt.
  • If everything has not been removed yet and if your floor allows it, we advise you to use a scraper to scrape the floor and slowly and safely lift everything embedded. Help yourself with baby oil or more spray so that the surface is wet.
  • Finally, once you have removed all the dirt, clean the entire area with a soap suitable for your type of floor and hot water so that it is perfect.
