Why Shouldn’t We Get Too Full At Food?

We often talk about the importance of the food we eat, of choosing quality products that are as natural as possible. But it is also essential to learn to eat correctly, and one of the best lessons is knowing when we are very full.

In this article we explain why it is so important not to fill up completely at meals, not only to maintain a balanced weight, but for a general health issue.

Because we are no longer hungry

Several studies have shown that, from the moment we start eating, hunger lasts for about 15 to 20 minutes. That is why it is so important to chew your food well and do it slowly so as not to eat more than necessary, but also to get to those 20 minutes satisfied but not full.

If we continue eating it will be more from finishing the meal or from “emotional hunger” than from a real feeling of hunger.

Many times, we stop at that moment and think that we could eat something else, sometimes without knowing what; that’s the right moment when we can finish the meal. In a few minutes we will realize that, in reality, we were no longer hungry.

Importantly, there are some people who have sudden hunger pangs shortly after finishing a meal. In those cases, it may be due to a digestive disorder or blood glucose imbalance.

Being very full does not give us more energy

Many people feel very tired or sleepy after eating. This is because much of the energy in our body is being dedicated to our digestive process. The more effort you have to make, the more it will cost us to do any other activity or effort at those times.

Therefore, if we do not force our body so much, we will also feel a little lighter and more vital after the meal.

Because we will have a better digestion

In the same way that we will have more energy if we do not fill up, our digestion will also be a little less intense and we will be able to assimilate food better. This will affect a better function of all the organs involved and we can prevent disorders such as gas, hyperacidity, gastric reflux, constipation, etc.

Because we won’t get fat

Stopping eating a little before feeling full will help us lose weight for two reasons. First, for the logical reason that we will consume a smaller amount and, secondly, because we will accustom our brain to a new order: to stop eating at that point naturally.

The part of our body where we will notice it most at first will be in the front and sides of the abdomen but, in the long run, we will notice it throughout the body.

Because we will avoid eating whims

Generally, the final part of the meal is usually dedicated to desserts and sweets that, in most cases, we consume out of habit or whim.

If we really need to have a dessert out of habit, we will opt for apple, pear or nuts, but always avoiding filling ourselves up.

We can leave the sweets for mid-afternoon, so that they will become our snack, and we can digest them much better than if we took them with food.

Because we can take an infusion

Another way to get used to eating a little less is to drink an infusion just at the moment when we would still eat something, usually a sweet.

The infusion will help us digest food better and will make us feel a little fuller for the time necessary to realize that we are no longer hungry.

We especially recommend infusions of the following medicinal plants:

  • Mint.
  • Chamomile.
  • Ginger.
  • Cinnamon.
  • Stevia.
  • Anise.

Because we feel better

When we manage to stop eating before feeling fully full, we are showing ourselves that we are capable of taking control over our hunger and over our body. When we manage to set small goals and fulfill them, we do not feel good about ourselves and that pushes us to continue doing it.
